Bunny Leech This is one of my favorite flies, it can be tied in any color combination, but I find black and some other colors produce the best. It's a killer fly for bass, pike, trout and just about any other fish. Materials
1. Start by preparing the hook shank and winding 20 or so turns of lead to make this fly sink fast.
2. Select a marabou and strip some of the barbs from the side. You'll want a reasonable amount to use as the tail.
3. Tie in the marabou and tie in 10 or so strands of black crystal flash.
4. Tie in the tip of the crystal marabou and wind the thread ahead to the front of the hook.
5. Wind the crystal marabou ahead in touching turns being careful not to overlap. Tie this down at the front of the hook. Note the space between the the tie down point and the hook eye. Don't crowd the hook eye.
6. Select a length of Rabbit Zonker strip and trim to about double the length of the hook.
7. Tie down the front of the zonker, form a small head, whip finish and trim off the thread.
8. With a bodkin carefully separate the rabbit hair above the point on the hook shank where the marabou tail is tied in. I find it easier if you moisten your fingers (spit is good) to hold the hair apart.
9. Tie down the zonker and using a series of 2 or 3 half hitches tie off the thread.
10. Trim off the excess thread.
11. Using head cement (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails is great stuff, by the way) apply a drop of it on the knot.
12. Using the Sally, apply a drop to the head.
13. The finished Bunny Leech.
