The Disposable Hardwood Bodkin The bodkin is used primarily as a pointy thing to apply head cement, seperate feathers, remove glue from hook eyes and also to pick out dubbing when making nymphs. They are normally fancy metal pokers with handles and you can get one at the fly shop for about 5 bucks. Now, the ones I have used last until a small football shaped blob of head cement forms on the tip, then it gets thrown out. Recently I have started using round toothpicks, and they work just as well at a fraction of the cost. There you are, the disposable hardwood bodkin.
